This week’s feature of My Favorite Home Styles Series is an American favorite, the Farmhouse. Like the craftsman, the farmhouse style has tons of story and character built into it. More basic than Victorian homes, but with a lot of the same structure, the farmhouse style is one with which I have recently become smitten. What sets these homes apart from the rest as you’re driving down the street? Here are a few tell-tale features that make a farmhouse stand out (even when there’s not a farm attached to it).
Ever head to the store with no plan for what you’re going there to buy? Some of you are saying “Uh, this is literally how I go food shopping every week.” Well, I could not be more opposite. I like to have a plan. I NEED to have a plan. Otherwise the cookie isle consumes me. I get confused and lost and I have no idea where I am anymore.
This summer, I had the privilege of designing an office for a dear friend and co-worker from when I used to teach sixth grade math! This girl was my lifeline during those first years of teaching. We shared a closet and would leave the doors to it open so we could sit at our desks and chat with each other. In a job that I struggled with every day, she made life look easy. When we both started having babies around the same time, it just brought us even closer, and she is one of the few people I still keep in touch with since leaving that school three years ago.
So the last time I did this post, I mentioned how I don’t necessarily describe myself as a trendy person. On the contrary, I usually feel like if I’m picking up on something, I’m probably the last person to find out about it. While I know some of the trends included in this post are not new, there may be one or two that you haven’t discovered yet. These are the design elements I’m seeing on Instagram, Pinterest and in magazines that make me swoon. I love all of these, and if I had the funds, I would have all of them represented somewhere in my home. I’m dying to know what you think about these 5 trends below. Which one is your favorite? Are there any you hate? And how many do you already have in your home?
